It's About the Green....
With my older son in Junior Kindergarden he has learned about St. Patrick's Day. Nate says... "you must wear green on that day"! So I asked him about making some green cupcakes for St. Patrick's day. He was surprised that we could do that. And in all I was excited for two reasons... 1. It is March Break and I need some ideas to keep him entertained & 2. .... I get to make CUPCAKES!!! I love decorating them and watching the boys use thier noggins and get creative. If you have any idea's as to how to decorate them besides just "green icing" please let me know. I will post a picture of the cupcakes once they are made.
Also, If you have any fun idea's to keep my 4 year old active and entertained this week, please share them with me.
One thing that I did find for him, which ties into this blog, is a computer game. "Strawberry Shortcake's cookie party". I got it at Costco for $3 cdn. I know that you are thinking "that's a girly theme"! But it is so much fun. Nate & I sat down for about 2 hours today and played the game. I thought that it was great interaction between parent & child. It was fun working together solving problems, racing down a chocolate river, decorating cake houses and you even get you make cookies. The CD also comes with some cookie recipes. In keeping with the cupcake theme, I would give this game 12 out 12 cupcakes! I may even sneak a game of it on my own once the boys have gone to bed.... shhhh.... our secret! ~Sara

A Sweet Weekend!
Well I am back! I was really sick last week and no energy to blog. This weekend was my sister's 35th birthday so I made my very first "3D" birthday cake. Click on the picture to see the full effect. I made it by cutting all the pieces out. No mold cake pan here. I even filled it with cherry filling. I was very happy with how it turned out... well except for the writing. I am gonna work on that! It was time consuming but loads of fun and it made me feel really good about myself.
So after making the cake, my four year said "moma, can I have a piece"? I said no sweetie this is for auntie's birthday party, which he was not going to. I felt bad so I got an idea...! I made cupcakes and put cherry filling in them! This way he could have his own and I don't need to worry about him eating a whole cake. They are really good! It is a nice surprise for the personal enjoying them. My son wanted to decorate them with blue icing with blacks spots. So we did, and they look so neat! The best part about the blue and black icing is that I know when he is sneaking a cupcake or walking by them and sticking his fingers in them. He actually did it quite a bit that I needed to put them up. The mircowave works best for storing the cupcakes. This way no plastic wrap messes up your decorating and the icing goes a little hard, which I like.
Have a great day!

Well Well Well ~ Look what I have found!
After starting my blog page, I went looking for some interesting ideas for baking! Here are some articles that I have found. Let me know what you think! ~ Sara
When we were children, cupcakes were some of our very favorite treats. Parents took the extra special time to carefully mix, bake and decorate these miniature treats to the great appreciation of all those who were lucky enough to enjoy them. Cupcakes were fun to make with the family and an evening could be care freely spent creating these tasty morsels. They were made for special birthday parties, a great report card and for any exceptional achievement or milestone. Cupcakes were easy to make, easy and fun to eat, they were the perfect single serving, and they were easy to clean-up.
As children grew up and interests changed, jump ropes made way for nail polish and eye shadow, while “cooties” made way for asking girls out on movie dates. Things changed and such childish treats as cupcakes were abandoned for other such treats, such as a full sheet birthday or celebratory cakes. The simple, easy cupcake was left behind.
In college and early adulthood years, it would be very rare to see cupcakes donning any social party tables. Sodas were replaced with alcoholic beverages, sweets with chips and other such snacking foods.
But, recently there has been an interesting revival of the infamously neglected cupcake within all age segments of the population. It has become popular again to want this special treat so much so that we are finding celebrities stopping, often daily, to enjoy the delectable treat. Many gossip magazines have written articles and taken voluminous pictures of this new phenomenon among celebrities. And, as is the case most of the time, celebrities tend to be the ultimate trend setters. The majority of the population looks toward celebrities for fashion tips, cool lifestyles, and many other instances. They want to, literally, be like the stars and so how better to achieve this than by imitating what they do.
Cupcakes are now once again being appreciated by young and old for their perfect portion sizes and their fun unique variations. Would you like sprinkles, frosting, or chocolate chips on your cupcake? What color would you like the sprinkles? They can be multi-colored, stars, beads, or one solid color. Would you like chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, or a multitude of other frosting flavors; and instead of chocolate chips to add that extra special touch, why not coconut or peanut shavings? And those choices don’t even include the different flavors available in the actual cupcake itself! Why not chocolate vanilla swirl or mocha peanut butter blend? And what about the wrapper the delightful treat sits in as it patiently waits for a person to pick it up? You can have pink, silver foil, holiday seasoned, and the list goes on of all the possible wrappers you can choose from. So many choices, so little time definitely illuminating the additional reasons why cupcakes are such a beloved treat for people young and old. And, cupcakes have a wonderful way of making people feel younger. They feel like a special treat in one’s hand, especially the uniquely decorated ones. No two are exactly alike, that is another great reason why people seem to adore them so! Cupcakes are definitely making a comeback and we are all so lucky for this fact!

So your child's birthday party is coming up and you still haven't thought of what kinds of food to serve? Don't fret. While you may be a gourmet cook and, thus, pressured to come up with something spectacular for his or her big day, you don't really need to push yourself too hard. You will find that the key to a successful children's birthday party menu is to keep things simple and uncomplicated.
A lot parents slaved over the party menu in the past and spent lots of waking hours poring over recipe books to come up with the perfect cupcakes and what-not, only to find out at the end of the party that only half of what they prepared had been consumed. It hurts, isn't it? Well, it shouldn't really be as painful once you realize that kids come to a party to be entertained, primarily. Eating is only secondary.
Kids are easy to please, so you don't really need to go all out on this department. In fact, the one thing that you can actually focus on with the food is how they look. Children judge food initially based on their appearance, so you might want to make them enticing.
Enticing, for kids, means cartoony and colorful, so you can go play with food coloring if you want. Blue spaghetti? Why not? It may look icky for adults, but it could the one big factor that would get your young guests to devour it.
You must also remember that kids are fussy eaters. Hence, you might want to hold off on the saucy meals and go for the simple finger foods that won't find their way into the children's clothing. Cut your food servings into bite size pieces so they won't have to struggle through it. Also, while you might be tempted to serve a lot of high-sugar foods and candies, you need to control them. You can compensate for the lack in sweets by using fun food coloring on breads, cupcakes and others.
Of course, no fuss party food doesn't mean you shouldn't plan ahead. While most of these no fuss meals are easily available in supermarkets and bake shops, you have to be careful that none of the foods your serve contain potential allergens, like nuts. You won't be able to find out about each of your guests medical history (and it's a little rude to do so), so you just have to be on the safe side at the onset.
Planning a children's birthday party requires a significant amount of effort on your part, not just with the entertainment and decorations, but also with the food. However, if it's your child's happiness that you have in mind, this shouldn't be a chore, at all.

When Saturday Night Live famously revived itself with the wonderful "Lazy Sunday" parody rap, they brought one of the biggest trends in baking to the mainstream: Cupcakes. The Magnolia Bakery, New York's go-to source for cupcakes of every description, has lines outside until close to midnight, and they limit purchases because of their popularity.
As popular as cupcakes are, it was perhaps inevitable that they'd crossover into wedding receptions. At first, couples served them as an additional dessert to complement their more traditional wedding cake, and that's still a very popular trend. But eventually, of course, the mighty cupcake juggernaut rolled onward and you can now serve your guests a cupcake wedding cake.
This clever concoction is created by using specially designed cupcake stands which give an effect of a tower, tree, or pyramid. Each cupcake is individually decorated, and the cumulative effect can be quite lovely. You and your wedding cake designer might choose to go with a single color, for a dramatic and monochromatic effect, or you could instead have a fun multi-colored cupcake wedding cake.
One of the great advantages of a cupcake wedding cake is the freedom it gives you to have a variety of different flavored cakes. Unlike a traditional wedding cake, you don't need to deliberate over whether you prefer an amaretto-raspberry cake, or a more classic vanilla: Have both, and while you're at it, add some cappuccino, banana, and chocolate-mint cupcakes too.
A cupcake wedding cake also offers other benefits as you plan your reception, particularly if you're on a budget. Prices for cupcakes are between $1.50 and $3.00 each. Wedding cake however, which is usually priced by the slice, can easily cost twice that much per portion. Cupcakes are also much easier to serve, although you do lose the opportunity for a photo of the ceremonial cutting of the cake. If that's important to you, plan to order a small traditional cake, which is supplemented by matching cupcakes.
Originally a New York phenomenon, cupcake wedding cakes are now commonly available everywhere. Consider ordering one for your wedding and give your guests a small, but perfect, taste of matrimonial pleasure.

As a stay at home mom that wants to be creative with her children I was eager to find new ideas in the baking department. I went online to search for new and interesting ideas that would be fun for me and the children in the "cupcake department". In doing this I did not find much information! Growing up I was taught that if you can't find what you are looking for, chances are that there is someone else looking for the same thing and so I decided to start my own page. Please add any ideas, comments or questions that you may have. In turn I will post my thoughts and hopefully we can become more creative together. ~ Sara
